Just like grandma used to make! This cake has a delightful butterscotch sauce to accompany the apple flavor you'll get in every bite. Whatever variety you use is up to you, but we recommend using a firm apple like a Cortland to bake with!

Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  2. Combine the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and baking soda. Gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Batter will be stiff.
  3. Stir in apples until well combined.
  4. Spread into a greased 9x13" baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until top is lightly browned and springs back when lightly touched. Cool for 30 minutes before serving.
  5. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine brown sugar and butter. Cook over medium heat until butter is melted. Gradually add cream.
  6. Bring to a slow boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
  7. Serve with cake and enjoy!
